Our Partners

This page will take you through a few recent partnerships that we've had the privilege of facilitating. As a grassroots organization with limited capacity, the support and resources that we are granted by our partners are crucial in advancing the work that we do.

The University of Texas at Austin

C.R.E.S.S.L.E.

Community Resilience integrated into an Earth System Science Learning Ecosystem is a partnership between PODER and the Environmental Science Institute at UT Austin to work with underserved communities from East Austin neighborhoods and assess community needs. The goal of CRESSLE is to create a community of practice that will design and implement community-driven research projects addressing community resilience and sustainability challenges adhering to four themes:  Water Resources, Climate Resilience, Land Use and Air Quality (UT Austin RESET Labs).

City of Austin

R.E.M.

In partnership with the City, PODER's Resilience and Emergency Management project is working to strengthen community stability and healthy living via a series of Emergency Preparedness workshops throughout neighborhoods in the Eastern Crescent, that are historically disproportionately impacted by emergency and climate related events.

WEACT & DSCEJ

Justice 40 Accountability

An unprecedented opportunity to transform our communities arose at the start of the Biden Administration, in which billions of dollars were committed to the advancement of environmental justice across the nation. In partnership with WEACT for Environmental Justice and the Deep South Center for Environmental Justice, we have networked and strategized with other EJ organizations from across the US, hosted a local toxic tour highlighting pollution and the need for investment, identified and tracked grant opportunities, and fostered partnerships with local government on said grant opportunities to ensure the benefits reach our communities.

RESET Lab at UT Austin

Air Quality Monitoring

The Rapid, Equitable and Sustainable Energy Transitions Lab is an interdisciplinary research hub seeking sustainable solutions at the interface of energy, equity and data science. The researchers making up this lab have proven to be an invaluable asset to the work that we've partnered on, in topics including air quality, land use, climate resilience, water resources, as well as the engagement of community on these themes.

About PODER

PODER (People Organized in Defense of Earth and Her Resources) is a women led, people of color grassroots social justice organization formed in 1991 to increase the participation of residents of East Austin in decisions related to the economic development and environmental protection of our communities. Our mission is to redefine environmental issues as social and economic justice issues, and collectively set our own agenda to address these concerns as basic human rights.  We seek to empower our communities through education, advocacy and action.
